The Third Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters is planned for June 11-13, 2008 in Riga, Latvia. Kazakhstan, like the other parties to the Convention, must prepare a national report on its implementation of the Convention.
In accordance with Decision II/5a “Kazakhstan’s Observance of its Obligations to the Aarhus Convention”, adopted at the Second Meeting of the Parties, the government is to present a report on the measures taken in compliance with Point 7 of this Decision. The report should be presented no later than four months prior to the beginning of the Third Meeting.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has prepared a draft report regarding the Republic of Kazakhstan’s implementation of the Aarhus Convention, and has made it available for discussion.

The public has the right to present to the Meeting its points of view on the Convention implementation process.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Environmental Forum of NGOs of Kazakhstan has prepared an alternative report, and has made it available for general discussion.
